1516
(19th century gold frame)
The monogram AD and the date appear in th upper right of the canvas. There is a reference to a portrait of an apostel, dated 1518, in the collection of Imhoff of Nuremberg and another for sale at the beginning of the 17th century by von Falkenburgh. This propose the hypothesis that these canvases were part of a series of portrait heads of the twelve Apostles, that, if not completed, was at least conceived of and in part executed by the German master painter, engraver, mathematician, an xylographer.
