Congratulatory scene in the corridor on the second floor of Nuremberg City Hall
________________
The scene of the action is the corridor on the second floor of the town hall with the sculpturally designed stucco ceiling, which brings to life the largest journeyman's jousting ever held in Nuremberg in 1446. The viewing axis extends from south to north. The ceiling was designed by the brothers Heinrich and Hans Kuhn from Weickersheim in 1621. Another attraction were the figurine-decorated chimneys from the time when Wolff's town hall was built and the portraits of the emperors, of which the life-size painting of Emperor Joseph II is clearly visible to the left of the portal of the registry office.
The picture shows the moment when Karl Crämer, as registrar, steps out of the small town hall hall, now the state hall, where the wedding ceremonies used to take place, and is congratulated on his 70th birthday in the corridor on the second floor of the town hall by his party friends gathered there.
(...)
The sitters were members of the German Free Democratic Party and the local committee of the German Free Democratic Party of the City of Nuremberg, respectively. The oil painting of Ritter, presented as a gift by the party friends on 8 December 1888 on Karl Crämer's 70th birthday, was at the same time regarded as a recognition of his 40 years of efforts for the public good, combined with the 40th anniversary of his election as a member of parliament.
Together with a deputation of the party, district court director Karl Herz gave the birthday eulogy and presented the festive gift: "We sincerely and warmly congratulate you in the name of the regional committee and the local committee of the Deutschfreisinnige Partei. At the same time we are the bearers of a festive gift in memory of this beautiful day. On the picture you will find the rooms in which you have worked fruitfully for many, many years, you will find yourself and some of your old friends. Accept the gift in a friendly way, keep your friendship with us and maintain your active support for the party. Remain its Rather and leader!"
