The epitaph belongs to Franz Schmidt, buried 14. 6. 1634 Nuremberg, who was executioner in Bamberg in 1573 and first appeared as such in Nuremberg in 1577. He held this office in Nuremberg for about 40 years and wrote an official diary about his corporal punishments. After giving up his office as executioner, he worked as a doctor. On 7.12.1579 he married Maria Beck, who might be a relative (granddaughter?) of Georg Peck.
