The altar of St. Catherine is attributed to the Nuremberg painter Valentin Wolgemut. The alliance of coats of arms depicted on the altar is attributed to Hans von Wallenrodt (d. 1473) and his wife Sibylla von Lentersheim (d. 1459); both were buried in the church, their tomb is preserved. Hans von Wallenrodt, since 1464 bailiff in Schwabach, donated in 1465 a chancel on the altar of St. Catherine.

Hans von Wallenrodt, Knight of the Order of the Swan, who allegedly had a love affair with Empress Barbara (Barbara Cilli, 2nd wife of Emperor Sigismund), made a trip to the Holy Land and wrote his memoirs. He and other relatives laid claim to the rich estate of John of Wallenrodt, Bishop of Liège (d. 1419), which led to decades of disputes with the High Chapter of Liège. The family was supported by Elector Frederick of Brandenburg and Margrave Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg.

Art publisher Josef Fink / Lindenberg i. Allgäu / 2019

On Hans von Wallenrodt, see Stillfried-Alcantara, Rudolf Maria Bernhard von and Hänle, Siegfried: Das Buch vom Schwanenorden. Ein Beitrag zu den Hohenzollerischen Forschungen, Berlin 1881, pp. 228-229.
