Heinrich and Ottilie

Heinrich and Ottilie General view of the altar

Heinrich and Ottilie

1510

General view of the altar

Master Jörg and workshop

"The altar, a donation of Haintz Mayer (d. 1507) and his wife Ottilie (d. 1521), shows a pictorially composed Anna-Selbdritt group in the shrine. (...)

Between the holy Emperor Henry II and (probably) St. Ottilie, the statuary version of Anna Selbdritt stands in the towering entablature, with Anna carrying the Christ Child and her childlike, diminutive daughter over her hips. Even though the figure has received little attention so far, it is of some importance, as it establishes the connection to the Bruck altar. For, physiognomically, Saint Anne obviously belongs to the wing reliefs and predella busts there."
