Anna in the crowning superstructure of the Annen Altar

a donation (1510) by Ottilie Mayer

"In the towering superstructure, between the Holy Emperor Henry II and (probably) Saint Ottilie, stands the statuary version of Anna Selbdritt, with Anna carrying the Christ Child and her childlike, diminutive daughter over her hips. Even though the figure has received little attention so far, it is of some importance, as it establishes the connection to the Bruck altar. For, physiognomically, Saint Anne obviously belongs to the wing reliefs and predella busts there" (Stefan Roller, Hans von Kulmbach und der Nürnberger Bildschnitzer Meister Jörg, in: Renaissance in Franken. Hans von Kulmbach and the Art around Dürer, Petersberg 2022, p. 109).

Location: Nuremberg, St. Lorenz, north ambulatory, St. Anne´s altar, crowning superstructure

Design: Herb (Meister Jörg Pildschnitzer), Georg

Realization: Herb (Meister Jörg Pildschnitzer), Georg

Depicted: Mayer, Ottilie

Material: wood
