Attended the Realgymnasium and during the war the Marinefachschule.


1950 attended the art and craft school in Würzburg, where he was a pupil of Heiner Dikreiter, 1951-59 studied at the AdBK Nuremberg (Ellingen), 1954-59 master pupil of Hans Wimmer. Since 1959 freelance sculptor in Nuremberg. His main subjects were the human figure and animal sculptures.

1972 Appointed to the AdBK Nuremberg as successor to Hans Wimmer, appointed professor,

1984-87 President of the AdBK Nuremberg, retired in 1993.

1955 BDI scholarship,

1959-60 stay in Italy with DAAD Bonn scholarship,

1962 Villa Massimo Prize, Rome, 1964 Burda Promotion Prize for the Roman Youth,

1964 City of Nuremberg Award,

1969 Cité international des Arts scholarship, Paris,

1991 Friedrich Baur Prize for Fine Arts,

1995 Awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. 1

1995 second prize for painting and sculpture from the Nürnberger Nachrichten.


Since 1957 member of the artist group "Der Kreis", member of the BBK and the Bund Fränkischer Künstler.
