St. Wolfgang's Chapel

St. Wolfgang's Chapel St. Wolfgang's Chapel south of St. Giles' Church

St. Wolfgang's Chapel

15. Jh. 16. Jh.

St. Wolfgang's Chapel south of St. Giles' Church

The rectangular St. Wolfgang's Chapel adjoins the south transept of St. Giles' Church and lies nine steps lower. It was probably built around 1437, and its current appearance reflects the renovation of 1503. The gallery on the west side is particularly interesting, as it originally served as a passageway to the monastery buildings. Here, a possible parallel can be drawn to the arcaded courtyards of the large townhouses of the same period. The arcades on the ground floor are slightly keel-shaped, while those above are pointed.
