Mary, St. George and Frederick III (ornate tiled stove)

Mary, St. George and Frederick III (ornate tiled stove) Tile fragment depicting the Annunciation to Mary in an interior after Robert Campin

Mary, St. George and Frederick III (ornate tiled stove)

second half of the century 15. Jh.

Tile fragment depicting the Annunciation to Mary in an interior after Robert Campin

Selected stove tiles from the Sebalder Parish House.

They were discovered in the north wing in 2017 and documented and recovered by Isabella Engler. It is presumably a complete, highly representative Gothic tiled stove that was discarded there in the early 16th century.
Precise dating is pending. Several hundred tile fragments have been found. A reconstruction of the stove is planned.

--------------------------------------------

The stove was made of leaf and niche tiles. These tiles depict elaborately designed pictorial motifs, suggesting that the work was created around the mid-15th century.
