Einspännige The Einspännige formed the mounted Nuremberg city guard, occupying an intermediate position between the military and the police. They received double the pay of an ordinary soldier and were assigned responsible tasks (guarding important prisoners, securing the transport of valuable goods, delivering dispatches, and escorting prominent figures). Around 1700, the one-horse chariot squad numbered approximately 30 men and was quartered in the Annengärtchen on the island of Schütt.
