Portal

"Professor Schmitz also commissioned Heilmaier to create a massive shell limestone portal for his newly built St. Anthony's Church in Nuremberg, reminiscent of Romanesque forms. The sculptural works on it, however, are entirely independent. The two reliefs—Nativity and Resurrection—behind the two original, tree-crown-like, sprouting cube capitals, then, at the top of the gable, the figure of St. Anthony and two reliefs: St. Anthony preaching to the fish and feeding the poor—charmingly naive creations, this time cast in colorful majolica at the Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory. In the church itself, he created charmingly invented and rigorously stylized capitals with animals and plants.
