Church of Our Lady in Nuremberg

Church of Our Lady in Nuremberg

Church of Our Lady in Nuremberg

1874

Schwendy painted the Frauenkirche with fruit market several times. A painting with this motif, dated 1856, was auctioned by Neumeister in Munich on 25 March 2015. It could be identical with the oil painting "Die Frauenkirche zu Nürnberg", which Schwendy exhibited at the Albrecht-Dürer-Verein in 1856 and subsequently at the Würzburger Kunstverein, where it was offered for fl. 220. At this price it was bought by the Munich Kunstverein and raffled off on 16.2.1857. In November 1867 a painting of Schwendy's "Backside of the Church of Our Lady in Nuremberg" was exhibited in Berlin. According to the inventory of art monuments of the province of Brandenburg, vol. 2, part 3 (1912), p. 223, there was a painting by Schwendy of the choir side of the Church of Our Lady in Nuremberg in the Wredow art collection in Brandenburg.
