Christiansturm, Front View
"The large, magnificent rusticated portal with the equestrian statue of Margrave Christian, accompanied by two warriors in Roman armor, the figure of Pallas Athena, cannonballs, barrels filled with cannonballs, Werner's self-portrait, the year 1607, the letters H W, on the Plassenburg armory. Inscriptions state that Margrave Christian had this gate to the High Bastion ("Christianin"), built in 1607/08 and lying in ruins, rebuilt. The design is by Werner, not by Albrecht von Haberland, who, as chief architect at Plassenburg, only created the plans for the fortifications (circular structure): sword, reins, spurs, etc., and also the main iron support of the horse." (Fritz Traugott Schulz / Thieme-Becker)
