Self-Portrait Oriel window facing Hefnersplatz, stonemason's figure as a corbel support (Atlantean)

Self-Portrait

Oriel window facing Hefnersplatz, stonemason's figure as a corbel support (Atlantean)

"At the corner building at Karolinenstraße 57, below the ornate oriel window facing Färberstraße, is a meticulously crafted stonemason's figure, dated 1902 and signed 'I. Schiemer fecit'. It may be a self-portrait of the sculptor who also created the oriel window adorned with tracery and friezes."

Quoted from the Nuremberg Artists' Lexicon, edited by Manfred H. Grieb

Adam Kraft had already depicted himself with stonemason's tools in his self-portrait as a figure carrying the tabernacle in St. Lorenz Church.

The late Gothic tracery of the lower parapet of the oriel window was modeled on the dormer window at Winklerstraße 37, dating from 1482.
