Johann Alexander
Boener

draftsman, copperplate engraver, etcher

christened Nürnberg, 18. Jan 1647

died Nürnberg, 02. Nov 1720

Copperplate engraver and art dealer Boener trained as a copperplate engraver with Mathias von Somer in Nuremberg, where he worked all his life. It was his workshop where apart from portraits and book illustrations the most comprehensive collection of copperplate engravings of Nuremberg, Furth and the surrounding area was created (more than 350 sheets). They are of different quality, generally despite of being topographically exact rather simple and were with regard to their artistic rank surpassed and superseded by the Delsenbach prospects.

Period: 17th c., 18th c.
