Attended the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts under Karl Hammer, Heinrich Heim and Carl Fleischmann. Then painter and lithographer at the Fürth Art Institute. Ernst Nister enabled him to study at the academy in Munich in 1891. In 1896 he left the academy and made study trips to the mountains for magazines and publishing businesses, and also made study trips to France, England, Switzerland and northern Italy. In 1900 he returned to Nuremberg, where he worked for the Nister Art Institute as a painter and draftsman. He later became head of the art department and was also a teacher at the Nuremberg Municipal Technical School. In addition to alpine landscape painting, he also painted picturesque views of Nuremberg and his Franconian homeland. He also created templates for postcards; in 1905 he illustrated the cover of the first city guide of the newly founded tourist association.
