He attended the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts and studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Wilhelm von Ruemann. He made study trips to Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. From 1908 onward, he worked as a freelance sculptor in Nuremberg, primarily in the field of facade decoration and funerary art. From 1906 to 1910, he lived at Reindelstraße 6, in 1913 at Marientorgraben 1, and in 1932 at Hallerhüttenstraße 7. His workshop was located at Hirschelgasse 21 from 1910 onward. He was a member of the Nuremberg Art Association.
