Oellinger (Ellinger), Georg, apothecary, amateur painter and draftsman, * c. 1487 Nuremberg – † January 5, 1558 Nuremberg, Grave No. 1158 in St. John's Cemetery, Epitaph dated 1532, still extant. ∞ I) 1512 Anna († 1514), widow of the apothecary Michael Hidler; II) Anna († December 1531); III) February 5, 1532 Anna Wetzstein († 1551); IV) December 2, 1551 Afra, née Lindner, widow of Sebastian Hainlein. He became a citizen in 1512. In the same year, he acquired Nuremberg's oldest pharmacy, "Zwischen den Fleischbänken" (Between the Meat Stalls), through marriage. He was mentioned in the text from 1526 to 1558. As spokesman for the pharmacists, he participated in the reform of the pharmacy regulations. Oellinger had undertaken extensive travels and acquired comprehensive knowledge of plants and medicinal herbs. His garden, established in 1520 and featuring rare medicinal plants, was renowned among experts. He was praised as a "lover of learning" and "very skilled at painting." He prepared the publication of a book on plants, some of which were certainly from his garden. The monogrammists AK and WR also contributed to the illustrations. Possibly due to Oellinger's illness, the work he had prepared was completed in 1553 by Samuel Quicchelberg and published under the title "Magnarum medicinae partium herbariae et zoographiae imagines." In 1528, he sold the house at Tetzelgasse 21 for 125 florins. In 1536, he acquired two houses on the market square (Zwischen den Fleischbänken 2, southern part) from the painter Jacob Elmstetter and Elisabeth Heppenbach; his pharmacy was also located there. In 1556, Joachim Deschler created a portrait medal of Oellinger, depicting him at the age of 69. His garden was taken over by Joachim Camerarius the Younger.
