From 1805 to 1809 he attended the municipal school of drawing an was a student of Christoph Johann Sigmund Zwinger, after that he trained with Ambrosius Gabler together with his artist friends Johann Adam Klein, Conrad Wiesner and Georg Christoph Wilder, with whom he made excursions in the environment creating artistic works together. From 1816 to 1819 he lived in Vienna. From Vienna he moved to Rom, where he committed suicide in a state of mental derangement. His extensive graphic oeuvre is kept in the Nuremberg Municipal Art Collections, the drawings in the Kunsthalle Hamburg  Erhard died in his artistic prime and belongs to the early-matured artists, that is why his works, especially his drawings are highly appreciated.
