Pleydenwurff is considered to be the initiator of Dutch style painting in south Germany. It is assumed that he at least during his stay in Cologne saw works by Rogier of the Weyden and Dierick Bouts – perhaps he even extended his journey as far as to the Netherlands. Wolgemut, Dürer´s teacher, was influenced by Pleydenwurff, he married the older master´s widow..
