Erhart
Schön

painter, draftsman, copperplate engraver

born Nürnberg, 1491

died Nürnberg, 1542

(.....)Temporarily he was involved in carrying out the big commissions of woodcuts for Emperor Maximilian I. Later on Schön delivered illustrations for leaflets and was one of the mass producers of early prints of woodcuts in Nuremberg. His memorial sheet for the death of Albrecht Durer in 11528 was repeatedly reprinted in the 16th century. Copiers cut two new wood blocks. The GNM possesses some anamorphoses of Schön , so called skewed pictures which reveal their content only in extremely oblique position. In 1532 Christoph II paid Schön for designing a fountain for the bishop of Trient, which was cast by Pankraz Labenwolff. (....) Works: Instruction on Proportions, Nuremberg 1538. Schön created about 1200 templates for woodcuts.(....) Quoted from the Nürnberger Künstlerlexikon, ed. by Manfred Grieb
